Amadeus
Nov. 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 2000
by Peter Shaffer
This speculative confrontation between court composer, Antonio Salieri, and Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart pits the mediocre against the genius with a merciless mocking God as
referee.
Salieri, confronted with the absolute beauty of Mozart's music, realizes
that, although he is capable of appreciating genius, he will never exceed the mediocre.
He renounces the God who would mock his efforts and sets out to block God's voice
on earth by destroying the child prodigy.
Intense drama, comedy and some of the best music ever written are the ingredients of this comic chiller of colossal proportions.
